The satellite is set to be launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida in the week of August 15, 2022, but the actual data is subject to change and dependent on factors such as final testing and integration and weather conditions.
The BlueWalker 3 satellite will have a 693-square-foot phased array which seeks to be the first space-based cellular broadband network that will be accessible directly by standard mobile phones.
AST SpaceMobile has poured $85 million into the development, with over 2,300 patent and patent-pending claims in support of the technology. The mission is projected to complete the research and development program and integration testing.
The company earlier secured an experimental license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which provides the testing of the BlueWalker 3 satellite-to-phone accessibility in the United States.
