New York City Mayor Eric Adams welcomed his first pay in the form of cryptocurrency, in line with his earlier commitment.

According to a statement from the mayor’s office released on Thursday, Adams’ paycheck was converted into both Bitcoin and Ethereum. He earlier said he will take his first three checks in Bitcoin.
Adams reiterated his support for cryptocurrencies, saying that New York wants to be the center of the crypto space and other financial innovations, aside from being the center of the world.
The mayor noted that welcoming such innovation will give New York a boost in job creation, improve the economy, and attract global talent. During his campaign, Adams vowed to make the city more crypto-friendly.
Adams’ paycheck was converted through Coinbase.
