The US government has “high confidence” that hackers linked to the Ministry of State Security, conducted an indiscriminate hack of Microsoft Exchange Service Software in March.
Secretary Antony Blinken stated the US and countries around the world are holding China accountable for its disruptive, irrespective, and destabilizing behavior in cyberenvironment.
The UK and European Union joined the US in the acknowledgement of the Microsoft email hack, which increased the vulnerability of thousands of small businesses and organizations to cyber intrusion.
The attack on the Exchange Server Systems started slowly in early January by hackers who had earlier targeted disease researchers, law firms, and universities.
The US-led public shaming is the most significant action from the Biden administration relating to China’s years long cyberattacks against the U.S government and corporations.
