The trademark applications filed on May 13 referred to Meta Pay as an online social networking platform for investors allowing financial trades and exchange of digital currency, virtual currency, crypto, digital and digital tokens.
Apart from trading and payment, Meta Pay could also incorporate digital asset lending and investment services.
The social media giant initially bought the MetaPay.com domain name from the South Dakota-based MetaBank in a $60M arrangement in December 2021.
The trademark filing is Meta’s latest crypto-related action after announcing plans to start testing NFTs on Instagram earlier this month.
Meta initially filed eight trademark applications for its logo, with the firm describing the action as part of its pivot in the digital economy.
