Amazon to Introduce Limited Advertising on Prime Video in 2024

0

Amazon.com Inc. has announced its plan to incorporate limited advertising into its popular streaming service, Prime Video, starting in early 2024. The move is aimed at supporting continued investment in “compelling content,” according to a blog post by the company.

With a commitment to offering a superior user experience, Amazon intends to ensure that the number of advertisements on Prime Video remains significantly lower than what is typically seen on linear TV or other streaming platforms.

The introduction of ads will begin in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada in early 2024. France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia will follow suit later in the year. While customers in the U.S. can choose to pay an additional fee of $2.99 per month to enjoy an ad-free experience, customers in other countries will have this option available at a later date.

Prime Video has garnered significant acclaim, earning 68 Primetime Emmy award nominations this year alone. Notably, the widely popular streaming comedy series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” holds the record for the most Emmy nominations in its genre, receiving a total of 80 nominations over its five-season run.

Investors have shown confidence in Amazon’s strategic move, as the company’s stock has seen a 1.2% increase premarket and has enjoyed a year-to-date gain of 54%, surpassing the S&P 500’s gain of 12.8%.

Amazon’s decision to introduce limited advertising on Prime Video demonstrates its commitment to delivering high-quality content while ensuring a sustainable revenue model. As viewers eagerly anticipate this change, Amazon’s position as a leader in the streaming industry remains strong.
