US monthly sales opened the year on a positive note, with a rebound after the contraction recorded in December.

US retail and food services sales stood at $649.8 billion in January, marking a 3.8% increase from the $626.3 billion in December and 16.1% higher than the same month in 2021.
Retail trade sales climbed 4.4% from the previous month and 11.4% from the same month in 2021. Gasoline stations increased by 33.4% from January 2021, while food and drinking places increased by 27.0% from 2021.
Sales for November 2021 through January 2022 increased by 16.1% from the comparable period in the previous year. The December percent change was revised lower to 2.5% from 1.9%.
