The partnership will focus on addressing supply chain issues brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Negotiations are ongoing and final details are set to be announced when officials meet in Brussels on June 15.

The partners will promote demoractic values and oppose the crackdown of authoritarian governments on the internet. They will also coordinate on competition policy and enforcement in tech.

Both parties will boost the sharing of innovation and investment across one another possibly through joint ventures on research and development on emerging tech. This will compete with China’s economic model.

American officials are keen on using the partnership to contend with China. Counterparts in Brussels have tamed down hopes, noting that ongoing trade disputes between the partners will not be reduced by the negotiations.
