United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) and the Teamsters union have announced a tentative five-year labor agreement that aims to improve job security, wages, and other protections. This agreement comes in response to growing concerns about the potential impact of a strike on the economy and the nation’s shipping ecosystem.
Meeting to Review the Agreement
Teamster locals in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are scheduled to gather on July 31 to review and recommend the tentative deal. The agreement will cover a total of 340,000 workers. Rank-and-file members will then have the opportunity to vote on the deal from August 3 until August 22.
Improved Compensation and Benefits
As per the terms of the agreement, current full and part-time UPS workers who are part of the Teamsters union will receive a salary increase of $2.75 per hour this year. Over the course of the contract, their pay will see a cumulative increase of $7.50 per hour.
Furthermore, the agreement ensures that current part-time workers will have their pay raised to a minimum of $21 per hour immediately. On average, they can expect a total wage hike of 48% over the next five years. New part-time hires will start at $21 per hour and progress to $23 per hour.

Full-time UPS delivery drivers belonging to the Teamsters union will experience an average top pay rate increase to $49 per hour.
