The U.K. stock market ended on a positive note Wednesday, with the FTSE 100 Index UKX rising by 0.80% to reach 7,587.30.
Top Gainers
Among the constituents of the FTSE 100, major oil & gas company BP PLC saw the largest increase in share price, climbing by 2.64%. Hotels firm InterContinental Hotels Group PLC and oil & gas company Shell PLC also performed well, with their shares rallying by 2.49% and 2.38% respectively.
General mining company Glencore PLC and non-ferrous metals business Antofagasta PLC secured the remaining spots in the top five gainers. Their stocks rallied by 2.36% and 1.55% respectively.
Top Losers
On the other hand, gambling industries company Flutter Entertainment PLC experienced the largest decline among FTSE 100 constituents, as its shares declined by 3.42% on Wednesday. Water utilities firm Severn Trent PLC and wholesalers company RS Group PLC also faced significant declines, with their stocks dropping by 3.39% and 2.33% respectively.
Water utilities company United Utilities Group PLC and clothing retail company JD Sports Fashion PLC completed the list of top five losers, shedding 1.85% and 1.40% in stock value respectively.
Currency and Commodity Market Updates
The pound weakened against the dollar by 0.27%, reaching $1.2715, and depreciated against the euro by 0.40% to reach €1.1586.
In the commodity market, Brent crude rallied by 0.8% to $86.86, while the yield on the 10-year gilt declined by 1.840 basis points to reach 4.369%.
