After Haley clinched her first victory in the District of Columbia’s primary, Trump regained momentum with this latest win. All eyes are now on Super Tuesday, with 16 states set to deliver results in what is the largest single-day delegate haul of the presidential primary season. Both Trump and Democrat President Joe Biden are currently dominating their respective races and look poised to secure their nominations.
Delegate Distribution in North Dakota
In North Dakota, candidates must achieve a minimum of 20% of the vote to win delegates. However, a candidate who manages to secure at least 60% of the vote will walk away with all 29 of the state’s delegates. Alongside Trump and Haley, candidates Florida businessman David Stuckenberg and former Texas businessman and pastor Ryan Binkley were also on the ballot, though they have garnered less attention in the race.

Karen Groninger, a retired music teacher and librarian from Almont, voiced her support for Trump as the best choice, highlighting his notable 2020 speech at the annual March for Life event in Washington, D.C., as well as his stance on border policies. Republican State Senator on Haley’s Chances
Longtime Republican state Sen. Dick Dever, of Bismarck, mentioned that despite voting for Haley, the retired factory representative believes she is unlikely to win the nomination. At 72 years old, Dever stated that many individuals appreciate Trump’s policies but are not fond of his demeanor.
Caucus Details and Voter Processes
Caucus voters in North Dakota were urged to be active party members, and those who did not want to pay the $50 annual membership fee were requested to pledge their affiliation with the party. Unlike other states, North Dakota does not have voter registration. The caucuses adhered to state voter identification rules, requiring a driver’s license for voting. All ballots were printed and will be manually counted.
Trump’s Influence in North Dakota
In both 2016 and 2020, Trump was able to secure North Dakota’s electoral college votes with a majority, receiving about 63% and 65% of the votes, respectively. His visits to cities like Bismarck, Mandan, and Fargo solidified his presence in the state, where he campaigned for local representatives.
Democratic-NPL Party’s Presidential Primary
On the other side, the Democratic-NPL Party in North Dakota is conducting a presidential primary primarily through mail-in voting from Feb. 20 to March 30, with limited in-person voting options for residents of Indian reservations. President Joe Biden and Rep. Dean Phillips are among the candidates on the ballot.

In previous years, Sen. Bernie Sanders emerged victorious in the Democratic caucuses in both 2016 and 2020, showcasing his support in the state.
