Hornby, the renowned London-listed models and collectibles group, announced on Friday that it is purchasing a 25% share of Warlord Games, a prominent producer of historical tabletop wargames, miniatures, and accessories. The acquisition is valued at £1.25 million ($1.6 million) and includes an option for Hornby to obtain a majority stake within two years and acquire the remaining portion of the company over time.
To finance this strategic move, Hornby plans to increase its credit facility with Phoenix UK Fund. Phoenix has agreed to extend the facility from £9 million to £11.25 million and extend the term by an additional year until December 2024.
This expanded credit facility will enable Hornby to capitalize on the positive momentum in its business and further invest in its future development plans. With Warlord Games under its wing, Hornby is well-positioned to enhance its diverse portfolio, which already features its iconic train sets and scalextric car racing sets.
Founded in 2007 by two former Games Workshop employees, Warlord Games has established itself as a reputable brand within the tabletop gaming industry. Their high-quality products have garnered a loyal following among gaming enthusiasts and collectors alike.
This strategic partnership between Hornby and Warlord Games signifies an exciting chapter in both companies’ growth trajectories. With a shared passion for creating immersive gaming experiences, this collaboration promises to reshape the landscape of historical tabletop wargaming.
