By Google has announced that its Bard chatbot is now available on other Google applications and services, such as Gmail, Google Docs, and YouTube. This expansion aims to enhance the functionality of Bard and make it a more valuable tool.
According to a recent blog post by Yury Pinsky, director of product management for Bard, a new service called Bard Extensions has been introduced. Starting from Tuesday, Bard Extensions allows users to find and display relevant information from various Google tools they use on a daily basis. This includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Maps, YouTube, Google Flights, and Hotels. Users can now conveniently access information from multiple apps and services all in one place.
For example, Pinsky explains that you can ask Bard to locate your most recent resume from Google Drive and summarize it into a concise paragraph to use as a personal statement for a job application.
Additionally, Bard now offers a feature called the “Google It” button, which enables users to verify the accuracy of Bard’s responses. By clicking on the “G” icon, Bard will read the response and evaluate if there is any supporting or contradicting information available on the web. Users can explore highlighted phrases and discover more about the information found through Search.
Another remarkable addition to Bard’s features is the ability to continue a conversation that was initiated by someone else and shared with you through a public link.
Google emphasizes that when users connect Bard to their personal data, the information remains completely private and is not accessible to human reviewers. It is also not utilized for advertising targeting purposes or included in Bard’s model.
Pinsky mentions that these new capabilities are a reflection of updates made to its PaLM 2 large language model. Based on user feedback, state-of-the-art reinforcement learning techniques have been applied to train the model to be more intuitive and imaginative. As a result, Bard now delivers responses with improved quality and accuracy, whether you need collaboration on creative projects, language translation across 40+ languages, or in-depth coding assistance.
