Inflation in the eurozone was unchanged in April, while it accelerated in the European Union, as energy prices continued to surge during the month.

The annual eurozone inflation clocked in at 7.4% in April, unchanged from the previous month. This compares with the 1.6% print recorded in the same month of the previous year.
The biggest contributions to the annual print were from energy which increased by 3.70 percentage points; services which climbed by 1.38 percentage points; and food, alcohol, and tobacco which increased by 1.35 percentage points.
The fastest annual rates were recorded in Estonia with 19.1%, Lithuania with 16.6%, and Czechia with 13.2%. The lowest rates were seen in France and Malta, both with 5.4%, and Finland with 5.8%.
The European Union’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 8.1%, higher than the 7.8% recorded in the previous month and significantly faster than the 2.0% inflation recorded in April 2021.
Annual inflation picked up in 22 member states and fell in three member states during the month.
