Shares of AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. saw a 1.8% increase in premarket trading on Monday as Taylor Swift’s concert film, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” achieved another remarkable milestone.
According to the latest data from Comscore, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was projected to surpass $200 million at the global box office by Sunday. True to expectations, the film has generated an estimated $203 million in revenue worldwide since its release. Notably, this makes it the first-ever concert film in history to surpass the $200 million mark in global box-office receipts, as stated by Comscore in a press release on Sunday.
AMC Takes the Lead
Not only is AMC showcasing “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” in its theaters, but it is also serving as the theatrical distributor for the movie. AMC Theatres Distribution, along with subdistribution partners Variance Films, Trafalgar Releasing, Cinepolis, and Cineplex Inc., have successfully secured deals with over 8,500 theaters across the globe to screen this groundbreaking film.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was already breaking records before its scheduled release on Oct. 13, prompting additional showings to be added. On Oct. 11, Swift announced via Twitter that early access showings would be held on Oct. 12, citing “unprecedented demand” for the movie.
The movie exceeded expectations by shattering the record for the biggest global opening weekend for a concert film, earning an impressive $128 million in box-office returns, according to Comscore. Imax Corp. also reported a record-breaking $13 million global box-office debut for “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” making it the largest Imax opening for a concert or documentary film by a musical artist.
AMC shares have experienced a decline of 74.5% in 2023, in contrast to the S&P 500 Index’s gain of 7.2%.
