Air Liquide and Vattenfall Sign New Power Purchase Agreement for Renewable Energy

0

Air Liquide (Paris:AI) and Vattenfall, a prominent electricity producer and retailer in Europe, have recently signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 115 MW of renewable power capacity. This significant agreement expands Air Liquide’s renewable power supply in the Benelux region and demonstrates the company’s commitment to decarbonizing the European industry and reducing its carbon footprint.

The PPA, contracted for a period of 15 years starting in 2026, will bring Air Liquide’s total renewable power capacity in Benelux to approximately 270 MW. This capacity will provide energy equivalent to over 70% of the company’s current electricity consumption in the region. The renewable energy will be generated by Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) offshore wind farm off the Dutch coast, which operates on a subsidy-free basis and at a world-scale level.

This PPA not only supports Air Liquide’s efforts in decarbonizing its industrial and medical activities in the region but also enables the company’s customers to reduce the carbon content of their end products, thus promoting a low-carbon economy in Europe. In total, the PPAs signed in the region will help Air Liquide reduce emissions related to power production by up to 8.5 million tonnes of CO(2) over the course of the contracts. This reduction is comparable to the emissions generated by more than 350,000 Dutch households.

Emilie Mouren-Renouard, Chief Executive Officer of the Europe Industries Hub, expressed the significance of this new large-scale PPA with Vattenfall. She highlighted how it marks an important milestone in securing renewable energy for Air Liquide, enabling the company to provide low-carbon solutions to its customers and support their decarbonization efforts. With the rapidly changing energy sector in Europe, Air Liquide is taking a leading role in the energy transition by actively supporting the development of renewable resources and fostering a low-carbon economy in Europe, in alignment with its Sustainable Development objectives.
